Planning a hotel or apartment repaint

A booking calendar gives the available dates; a room-by-room inspection establishes what can be achieved within them. Bring those two pieces of information together before promising a guest room or serviced apartment back into use.

Build the scope from the room condition

Identify complete wall surfaces, ceilings, skirtings, doors and window joinery to be included. Photograph luggage marks, furniture shadows, staining and damaged edges. Distinguish a planned full repaint from a limited repair, and establish any cause of staining before it is covered. The agreed extent should be clear enough for the operator and the painter to inspect the same work.

Release a room with everything it needs

Confirm when furniture and loose items can be moved, where they will go and who holds the keys. For an apartment, include kitchen fittings and stored equipment in the protection plan. Give the work a named operational contact who can resolve questions about room contents without relying on reception staff to make unplanned decisions.

Keep guest circulation in the programme

A corridor may remain in use while an adjacent room is unavailable. Identify the route for materials and waste, the location of protective coverings and the times of housekeeping movements. For interconnected terrace buildings, confirm every door on the carrying route. Agree how the operator will manage any change to circulation before the work starts.

Leave room for the finish to be ready

Allow for the specified products' drying, ventilation and return-to-use requirements as well as preparation and application. Do not calculate the handover solely from the last coat. Where the available gap is too short for the agreed scope, change the room release or reduce the instruction explicitly, with the consequences recorded before the booking calendar is committed.

Check work hours independently of bookings

Westminster publishes normal working hours of 8am–6pm on weekdays and 8am–1pm on Saturdays, with Sundays and bank holidays outside that window. Its approval process addresses work outside those hours. A quiet period in the booking calendar is not itself permission for noisy preparation or scaffold operations.

Inspect before the room is dressed

Arrange inspection while the surfaces are visible, then sequence removal of protection, cleaning, furniture return and the operator's final checks. Record the exact colour and sheen used in each room, together with any finish retained. Keep the reopening decision with the operator after the agreed handover requirements have been met.
